The
Carousel Building is a National Historic Landmark and its preservation
is of critical importance to the City of Santa Monica. The following guidelines
contain specific rules regarding private rental of the Carousel. You
are required to adhere to all rules.
HOURS
The Carousel is available for private, corporate and commercial rental
as follows:
September (after Labor Day) thru June:
Monday Thursday (before 11 AM and after 5 PM)
Friday, Saturday, Sunday (before 11 AM and after 7 PM)
July thru Labor Day:
Monday Thursday (before 11 AM and after 7 PM)
Friday, Saturday, Sunday (before 11 AM and after 9 PM)
All
events and activities must end by midnight and the facility vacated by
1 AM.

OCCUPANCY
175 people for a sit-down dinner.
350 people for a stand-up buffet.
The deck area east of the Carousel may be rented for an additional
fee and accommodate up to 250 people.

INSURANCE
Individuals, groups, corporations, or non-profit organizations hosting
an event are required to provide a certificate of insurance. The City
of Santa Monica can provide insurance for the day of the event for an
additional fee. All caterers, rental supply companies, private security
and any other service companies must also provide the City of Santa Monica
a certificate of insurance prior to the event.
$1,000,000 combined single limit.
Include the City of Santa Monica and Pier Restoration Corporation,
as additional insured.
Signed Hold Harmless Agreement.
Signed Carousel Rules and Regulations Agreement.

SECURITY
Events with more than 50 participants must hire two private security
officers.
Events with more than 150 participants are required to hire three
security officers.
Events with more than 250 participants are required to hire four
security officers.
Carousel Marketing can refer you to a licensed, bonded security
companies.
Santa Monica Police Department reserves the right to require off-duty
officer(s) to be hired by the renter based on the nature and date of the
event, and number of guests.
Carousel staff operators are not considered security.

ALCOHOL
SERVICE
Alcohol service is permitted in the Carousel Building only during
private parties when the Carousel is closed to the public.
The Alcohol Beverage Control Board has been contacted at 310-412-6311,
and a temporary alcohol permit is secured if required.
Responsible alcohol service must be practiced including requesting
ID of anyone who looks under 30 years of age, and refusal of service to
intoxicated persons.
If the above guidelines are not adhered to, the Carousel Staff
and/or Santa Monica Police Department shall advise the host, failure to
correct the problem may result in the event termination and possible police
action.

BUSINESS
LICENSE
The City of Santa Monica requires all caters, rental companies, florists,
etc., hired for an event obtain a business license from the City.

SMOKING
& FLAMMABLE MATERIALS
Smoking is not permitted in the Carousel.
Candles and other flammable materials are not permitted in the
Carousel or on the deck.
On-site cooking equipment must be approved by Carousel Marketing.
A Santa Monica Fire Department permit may be required (310-458-8669).
Events attended by more than 300 people must have a Fire Marshal
present.

PARKING
Parking is available on the Pier (very limited parking) and in
the 1550 Beach Lot, north of the Pier.
Rates vary with the season.
Pre-paid parking may be arranged through Standard Parking 310-458-8295.
There is no free parking or reserved parking.
Vehicle weight limits are 20,000 lbs. on the asphalt and 6,000
lbs. on the deck and deck parking area.

EVENT
PLANNING
Carousel Marketing will work with you on referrals for caterers,
rental companies, florists, etc. Note: Helium balloons are not allowed
in the Carousel.
Banners, signs, decorations, etc. may not be attached in
any way to any part of the exterior or interior building at any time.
