The Santa Monica Pier is the location for many public and private events including everything from concerts, environmental fairs, and live-television productions to black-tie awards dinners and private casual parties.
Events are permitted in the Pier parking lot between Labor Day and June 30. Public events are permitted 7 days a week and private events Monday through Thursday.

FEES
Fees for the use of the Pier depend on the size and type of event. Fees may include the following:
- City of Santa Monica Pier Event Fee
- Pier Parking Lot Fee
- Security Deposit
- Fees for City Event Services
WEIGHT LIMITS
The Santa Monica Pier is over 100 years old and we hope it will be here for another 100 years. Therefore, weight limits are strictly enforced. The limit on the paved portion of the Pier is 20,000 pounds. The limit in the parking lot and boardwalk area is 6,000 pounds. Weight limits include vehicles and loads. Pier staff will assist in event organizers with planning for event load-in and load-out.
EVENT APPLICATION
An Event Permit Application is required for all events that are staged in public space. Events within Pier businesses do not require an Event Permit Application.
To begin the Event Permit Application process, simply send us a brief description of your event including the dates and times you have in mind, the number of expected attendees, and a description of the event elements. Pier staff will contact you to review the information and answer any of your questions. Once your event receives preliminary approval from Pier staff, then you must complete a City of Santa Monica Event Permit Application. Depending on the size of the event, the application must be submitted at least 8 weeks in advance of the event date. Pier staff will be happy to assist you at (310) 458-8935.
Filming Background Information
Appearing both as a landmark Santa Monica site and incognito as any wharf or pier, the Santa Monica Pier has made dozens of cameos on screen. With the film industry calling Los Angeles its home, the Santa Monica Pier has been a favorite spot for filming. Both versatile and accessible, the Pier easily facilitates the needs of the film industry.
Films such as The Sting, Ruthless People, The Net, Cellular, Fat Albert, along with television programs such as Baywatch, and several music videos have used the Santa Monica Pier.
To scouts in search of an outdoor location, the Pier offers views of the wide sandy beach, the cliff-lined Pacific Coast Highway, the boardwalk, bikers, runners, in-line skaters, volleyball players, boats and fishermen of all types. Additionally, the Pier offers an amusement park with a ferris wheel and roller coaster, an arcade, an historic carousel and always lots of extras for crowd shots.
The Santa Monica Pier is 413,056 square feet (9 1/2 acres). Easy and ample parking makes access simple. With decades of experience hosting film crews, the Pier is well versed in both the language and needs of the film industry.
